: : Did hamlet love ophelia? Please give three reasons why, Thanks
: **I'm doing a paper on the same thing. I've done a litte reasearch, and I'd love to aruge that Hamlet did in fact, love Ophelia, but it is so much easier to attack that statement, so you might want to think about disagreeing.
: At any rate, things you can site are his poems and letters to her before he sees his father. There are quotes, which Polonius reads to the King and Queen. Hamlet tells Ophelia that he once loved her, but doesn't anymore. This is purely because he has so much on his mind, he can't possibly think of love. He also is battling mysoginy. Hamlet is upset with his mother for marrying her brother (in-law) scarcely a month after her first husband had died, and takes this out on Ophelia.
: The first thing Hamlet does once he has seen his father's spirit and is told he must avenge his death is go to Ophelia. He enters her room and behaves in a way that's quite mad. This is suggested for two reasons: he is upset that she hasn't been talking to him or accepting his letters, and that he is torn between duty to his father and the obvious moral wrong of killing another man.
: When Ophelia dies, Hamlet happens upon her funeral procession. When Laertes, Ophelia's brother, proclaims his love for his dead sister, Hamlet argues. He says that his love is more bountiful than that of 40 brothers. He also says that he would've done anything for her, including eating a crocodile.
