Namaskar,
The present day hinduism has its roots in what is called "Sanatan Dharma". A google search of the said two words will provide plenty of resources for your study. May I add a word of caution that the study of any scripture has to have two considerations. The first is with reference to the matters that they contain having specific relevance with respect to the time that they are believed to have come into existence, and the second, the more vital part is that part of the scripture which holds true and retains validity by its sheer universality, through all ages. The study should be specific to extracting that portion which benefits mankind primarily in its present day.
Regards.
