If you want to see a real identity theory see my thought at the philosophy campfire.
I think- We cannot seperate our identity from our self.
- To have another's identity is to relate to the world differently.
- My identity is how I relate to the world.
_ Without my identity I would be something different to my self.
- I relate to the world according to my experience.
To answer your question about the matter transporter. The matter that is my self must relate to the world as a new born babe. It would be without any experience. I must ask my self a couple of questions about my answer.
1. Q.Is thought a thing? If it was it would be transported with you.
A. Thought is only the framework we use to think about things at all. This framework is called language. (language is plural and includes the language of our senses. To think of a smell is to remember it, we experience the smell, but we do not experience it again in our thoughts, we only remember our reaction to the smell ) Test this for your selves, don't just rationalise your answers/arguments.
2. Q. Is thought a process? If thought was a process, than the processes that make up our identity could be transported encoded in the matter.
A. Test this answer for yourselves. We like to think that when we are doing something we are going through a process. When we say we are thinking we like to think of it as a process. I will say to you that thinking is having thoughts. We arrive at our conclusions by applying the rule of inference. As I said, do some thinking and know what is happening.
