If you have time read "Political Thinking: The Perennial Questions," by Glenn Tinder 6th edition. Inside are two great chapters: Chapter 5 has a section on Machiavelli and Chapter 6 has a section on Thrasymachus. These two chapters point out some major differences between the two and the strength of Thrasymachus' theory. More or less, Thrasymachus' theory is stronger than Machiavelli's for Thrasymachus is more broad. Whether he was right or not still remains. According to Tinder, Thrasymachus saw Humans as an estranged species hence there is no common good, where Machiavelli believed in creating harmony within an aristocratic/ monarch society.
The book is a slow read, but it is worth the pain.
Good luck,
Collin S. Fergus
