Hume doesn't believe we have 'free will', we only have the illusion of it. Since all of our actions are made by a series of 'cause and effect' connections we don't have any say of how we really act. Descartes makes that distinction of the will, that you may will anything, and in that sense your will is as powerful as God's. However Hume does not believe that you even have anything called a free will. Also, the thing your TA said about free will being what you can do and can not do is talkin about time. Free will umes that we can do something, then given the chance to be in the same situation we have the "Freedom" to do otherwise.
