I have a copy of the Enchiridion on my table at work, and included a paragraph in my company manual for my soldiers at FT Hood, Texas. The most appealing aspect of stoicism is that once you realize that you can survive anything life may fling at you, and continue to march, you are less anxious about what the day holds. I would only add a dash of cheerfulness to this former slave's thoughts on stoicism. The term "stoic" too often denotes someone who grimly endures dire cirstances. The chap who can crack a smile in the midst of tribulation earns my admiration. :-)
I've dedicated a goodly portion of my website to Epictetus-style thinking. www.glenn.tolle.com. See you there! -- GT
