I am a composer and ethnomusicologist from the Philippines and I have been reading some of the works of Baudrillard. I think he has affected my thinking as a composer. In the last work I did, entitled SALAYSAY (Narrative) for Voice, Three percussionists and the audience, premiered in December 2000, I attempted to figuratively "anihilate" the notion of "audience" by making the audience "perform" for the musicians. I believe that every performance of music in this day and age, from the classical to the popular to the avant-garde, make the audience mere "extras".
