I have a 96' Mercury 225 Carb Outboard, S/N OG349408 in the Florida Keys. After only 225 hours of personal use and proper care the engine blew the #6 piston. I took it to a "Mercury Authorized Dealer" with a "Certified" mechanic, Brian Lesko Islamorada Boat Center Mile Marker 82.1, 135 Madiera Road Islamorada FL 33036 (305) 664 2777 F(305) 664 5477. After mis-diagnosing the problem, the engine ing the #6 cylinder three times and $3,000 the dealer refuses to stand behind his work or repair the problem. The Mercury Factory mechanic diagnosed the problem as an out of round cylinder caused by improper repair. Since I have taken the engine to Sundance Marine, Jensen Beach, FL Mitch Milesi,Mitch Milesi, Sundance Marine, Jensen Beach, FL, (561) 334 1416 who as said that the problem is as a result of improperly done work and that further dammage has been done to the engine as a result. Mercury says that they have no control over the dealer and refuse to intervene. I have Faxed the president of Mercury with no response. Mercury only cares about selling the product. Not about the service of the product, the ethics of their "Factory Authorized Dealer", the quality work being done, or the mistreatment of a customer that has had a Mercury's on three boats. I will never again own a Mercury and will tell all that I come in contact with about my nightmare experience of owning a Mercury and dealings with a Mercury dealer and the Mercury Factory.
