The conventional wisdom seems to ume that light exhibits simultaneous properties of waves and particles. This creates some dilemmas that could be solved if only we take a new view and ume that light travels as a wave (and thus produces Airy effects), but only "becomes" a particle when it is stopped by a measuring device such as a retina or a phosphor screen. Heisenberg always said atoms were not “things”. Neither are electrons, protons or photons things. A photon is actually an artifact of the measuring device; it is an interaction between a light wave {or a wave function} that “collapses” when absorbed by the measuring device.
