: : P u r i t a n s !
: : Who, specifically, comprises this group?
: The english settlers that founded the grounds in which the American Constitution is based upon.
:
: : Why did they come to this country (America)?
: America was regarded as the New Promissed Land.
: They were tired of being oppressed by the laws established by the english monarchy and they wanted power, they wanted to start over their lives.
: : What problems did they face once they arrived in America?
: They faced a lot of problems, on one side they had to follow the bible's words and do not sin, on the other they had to be the best and earn as much as they could by any means. Puritanism is based upon contradiction. Contradiction built progress.
: : What contributions did this group make to America prior to 1860?
: Prior I'm not qualified to inform you but post to that, the puritain thinking still is present as a heritage in the American Creed and Beliefs. No wonder that George W. Bush refers to Bin Laden as "the Evil" when we speaks "We will fight Evil and WIN" or "God Bless America!" - This is pure puritain heritage.
America has so many different types of people that it is hard to say who an American is. But there is the fact that no matter what anyone says there will always be the people that look back and agree with the puritan ways even if they dont believe in religion. The reason for this is the puritans way of life was to live a good life free of sin and evil. The reason that people that are not religious say this as well is because nothing was tolarated and all wrong doings were taken care of right away.
