A Simple Rose
Dew drops fall from the tender leaves
as the man proposes upon one knee
a smile forms on her beautiful face
holding back the pressure of showing good grace
like in the tales her mother told
deep in the petals is a band of gold
a treasure unfolds into plain sight
setting the mood and making it right
the question is out there waiting for reply
a tear rolls down she starts to cry
all her dreams alone she hoped to come true
yes is her plea only to you
the rose falls as he twirls her around
forgotten in the moment it lays on the ground
she picks it up and tucks it away
keeping it safe for another day
miles down the road she opens a book
smiling at the direction that simple rose took
admiring the beauty and the sweet lingering smell
tucking it away remembering the stories it can tell
