: : : I've been shamelessly hooked on Colleen McCollough's series on the Roman Republic. Does anyone have any insights into or criticisms of her treatment of Caesar?
: : Do you know when McCollough's next book, October Horse, is due to hit the bookstores?
Me too! An acquaintance of mine and hers has said that she is
squabbling with her publisher; the book is done, however.
My opinion is that the first book was truly excellent, and the others
have been progressively less so, but still quite
entertaining enough for me to have read each several times. I
think Caesar was maybe a little more sinister than
she presents, but she weaves interesting politics
between liberals and conservatives that can teach us something
about the present.
