Chang had did have a choice to confess the Lord Jesus Christ, but chose to delay confessing him for the longest time possible. By the time he realized his Father had drugged him, it was too late for Chang to voice his allegiance to Jesus Christ, and he was thus marked because Antichrist's people umed he was one of theirs.

In real life there will be no forced marking of Christians with the beast's mark. Taking the mark and worshipping Antichrist go together, even though the authors separated the two acts in the series.
The Bible does not refer to a "mark of the believer." This visible mark is a fabrication of the Left Behind series. The Bible in no way makes provision for anyone who has the mark of the beast to be exempted from the promised punishment for it. The Bible teaches that if Christians do not overcome, they will be blotted out of the Lamb's Book of Life.
Tim LaHaye got around the solemn Bible doctrine by creating two books of life in both the Left Behind series and his nonfiction books (including the Tim LaHaye Prophecy Study Bible: King James).
By coming up with two books of life, the authors came up with (1) a book of life for every person born into the world (people get blotted out of this book if they die unsaved), and (2) the Lamb's book of life in which only Christian's names are written therein. No matter what the Christians do, (murder, suicide, infanticide, theft, lying, etc.)they will never be blotted out.
This is a far cry from the Lord Jesus Christ's own definition for overcomer which is to keep the works of Jesus until the end!
