The authors are merly playing on a possibility here, an interpretation if you will. Granted it is hard to accept that a dual mark can be given to someone who can speak. Yet, Chang is presented as someone who has no voice amongst his father. An example of that would be when he talked of christ being "risen indeed" while in the presence of his father, Moon, and David. While David heard him the others did not, as if he had no voice. But, as the book also implies, Chang has the Mark of a believer. The Mark which has put his name in the Book of the Lamb never to be erased.
