I just read this book in an American Literature course and I believe that this book teaches you to respect other races, keep in mind this book was published in the 1880's and that was the kind of dialect they used in the south in that time period. So before you try and conclude that this book is racist, go back, read it and think about it, there's much more in the dialogue that meets the eye, take the time to study it or don't waste your time judging it.
