I read the Temple of the Golden Pavilion and the Sailor who fell from grace from the sea and some other books by Mishima. I remember reading in 1970 Life Magazines articles on Mishima's ritual suicide by seppuku and being influenced by this. He is of the order of Lawrence of Arabia, having balls as big as gfruits. We are ordinary mortals, paying our taxes and our bills but these guys have convictions way beyond what we have. They are interesting for that fact alone. The French like these Japanese authors for the intense description that they are capable of, for example Maurois, A Nest of Vipers,. We could all rethink our own moral convictions vis a vis wanting more and more and greed. Whats it all about Alfie.
