Are you sure the person wasn't quoting from a novel. The scene you describe sounds like a passage from Joyce's "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man", Stephen is contemplating Priesthood and then has an "epihany" (Joyce is chock full of epiphanies) and sees the young woman, in blue on the shores of the lake.
