Yeats wrote most of his poems in reaction to the havoc wreaked by the wolrd war 1.As far as i know Golding was inspired by the same to write his Lord of the Flies. The common element , as i see it , among the two is lack of integration among mankind which can only be achieved through submission to a common figure of authority , in Yeat's case it is none but God since he preached the turning away from the worldly considerations to the peace and serenity offered by the spiritual world. In The Second Coming the lack of lawlessness is causing violence to flourish , the authoritative power that keeps humans under control is missing. What results is chaos and confusion , the strife among people who want to rule and gain authority.Lord of The Flies is also about the same theme. The children on the island represent mankind in general.John and Ralph's conflicts as to who ought to rule the island represents the thirst for authority in the represent the problem faced by the world at large.Hunger for power results in war, the strong want to crush the weak and tighten their clasp over whatever or whoever would yield.Yeats feels that its time for someone to come and set things right but he also fears that when that happens the new figure of authority is to be feared rather than welcomes. It is not going to be as Christ was , Christ also came to redeem humanity of its sins and push them out of the darkness of faithlessness but this beastly demon of a ruler is the kind to make ur hair stand on its end. Thus in both works , apparently poles apart from eah other , have in common the same theme of faithlessness and lack of integration among mankind and the need for faith in a divine power that ,which alone can bring himan beings together to coexist in a peaceful manner.
