: : i think this board needs a new topic.
: : what do you think of pagan faiths, afterall they have existed longer than any monotheisic faiths. Wiccan goddesses have graced more cave paintings then the Hebrew god ever did.
: All religions are the definition of myth, which is a story that explains something to us which otherwise cannot be explained. They show us why we are here and what happens to us after we die. This is why people flock to religion so much. They need answers to these questions. People would rather take for fact what someone else tells them is right than to think for themselves and be original. There is a security that if someone else believes it, it has to be t least partially true. This is the same effect religon posses.
Would you thus argue, based on what you've said above, that a faith's main appeal is that others believe it, so it makes it comfortable to believe it? Almost a band wagon concept here. well, pretending I agreed, that would explain Christianity in the world and particularly in the US, it's the most widely followed religion in the world, but how would that explain lesser known or followed faiths, but still there are believers that hang in there so tight? For example, there are areas of the US where, say the Jewish faith is unheard of. One of my best friends, Jack, was Jewish outside of Philidelphia where we both grew up, and he was the only one in our entire neighborhood! How does the theory apply here?
Good thoughts!
