: Are not all who claim beliefs of a contrary nature to Theism by default atheists?
Not necessarily. To claim to be Mono/poly theisic means you have to believe in a god or gods. Just because you contradict yourself doesn't make you atheist. No matter how confused you get, if you think when you pray someone or something listens, you believe and thus not athiest.
If you are sitting there saying there is no god but I believe in a god, then chances are you're questioning your faith and aren't sure what you believe in, so no title fits. You have to wait until they find in their hearts what they believe before you can label that belief.
