My experience with the WD: WD-40 is great for some things, mostly for protecting metal from water (esp.Salt water). Also sufficient for temporary lubrication of large parts, like hinges on your car hood.
WD-40 ages poorly and becomes gummy after only 2 months and later turns to varnish. Re-application can help, but does not wash away the old and tends to build-up. Since you plan to use your new land-yacht on moist salty sand in the wind, this product will tend to attract fine sand particles -making things worse. Also, the longer you keep this on your bearings, the harder it will be to remove it.
Your wheels are not expensive & you will likely replace them soon anyway - so this may not be an issue for you. On your next wheels, try a silicone spray (w/teflon) -applies relatively dry and seems to dissappear rather than gum-up with age and should last longer per each application.
