I'm just killing time on the computer before the big feast. Thought I'd share a few things that may be of interest to someone.
Tony Gaunce and anyone else who may be interested: Starboard has an interesting chat page where set-ups for the Formula 155 and other boards are discussed in great detail, including by Wojtek whatever-his-name-is who killed everybody at last year's Formula Worlds. This year's Worlds will be held in the first week of December. Starboard has won each year since 1997. Seems like they know a thing or 2 about racing in light wind (Formula racing min. wind speed = 6 knots, which may explain the 90cm-wide boards and 70+cm fins!!). The website is: http://4.36.74.221/forum/forum.asp
It is amazing to read the posts on this and the Gaastra chat pages and realize how big the racing equipment is these days. 85+cm boards, 70+cm fins, 10+m sails are the norm unless the wind is above 20 knots. Then everyone drops to their "small" gear: 9.4 sails, 58cm fins....! Makes my Seatrend 70 and Stealth 9.0 seem tiny by comparison.
For anyone interested in the pro racing scene: Kevin Pritchard (US-3) finally dethroned Bjorn Dunkerbeck as overall world champion. Kevin whipped everyone in racing and came in 8th in waves. For us shorter guys, it was gratifying to see 160# Scott Fenton coming in 3rd overall.
Formula racing may be overtaking the PWA in popularity. A lot of the PWA pros will be racing at this year's Formula worlds. Could be interesting.
