I took a lesson on Saturday from Dave Marshall over at Lake Wheeler. I have a couple questions. The first is, how high should the boom be? Is it personal preference or is there a rule of thumb. the gear I was using had the boom set up about even with my head. That seemed high to me. I'd have thought it should be about shoulder level. The second is on etiquette and attitude. Please do not take offense, but if you see someone who is a beginner falling off the board a lot and just generally looking silly, is the prevailng attitude that he needs to get off the water? (this umes that the person in question is not being an and ruuning into other surfers, clogging lanes, etc). I ask because I have tried other sports where beginners aren't tolerated very well for some reason. On the flip side, for beginners are there any dos/don'ts? the next time I am out, I want to keep from annoying everybody. Lastly, do you guys use a PFD or just a harness attached to the board. On Saturday, we didn't have either one, but we also weren't that far from the beach.
