Sailed from about 10:45 until about 2:15. I hadn't sailed JOrdan in quite a while and it was great to be outdoors and in warm water agan!
Brought only one board, the Seatrend 70 with a 7.5 sail. Others sailors were on 6.8 to 8.5 (or bigger, John H.?). There were about 8 windsurfers: Randy D., John H., JOhn R., Bob R., Stuart (sp?), Tom (New Malibu), a guy from Madison, Wisconsin, a Dutch guy. Several jetskis, including one who was inconsiderate enough to moor his jetski right in front of the launch ramp.
Winds were gusty and from the southwest, 2-3 in the lulls, averaging 8-12, maybe 18 in the best gusts.* I was ITFS most of the time, but there was some slogging.
By early afternoon the boat traffic was kicking up a lot of chop, so much so that it became difficult to sail. You get this odd situation in which the wind and waves and swell all seem to be working in different directions. Maybe "chop" isn't the right word, CHAOS would be more like it. I had forgotten how nasty it can be sailing with power boats.

*After I stated my estimate of the wind speed, I went to the NWS for their stats. The NWS says the highest wind speed today was 18 mph, the highest gust speed was 22. The average wind speed 11.4. Deduct a few percentage points because they're measuring at RDU and you've got it. Hey, my estimation were fairly accurate. But then I've had wind sensitivity training.
