The .PDF of a page from the book said "you may." I have never found a book copy that say's "you will" only several references on the internet.
The person who asked this on the old forum said she found about a 50/50 split on the internet. I hope this was not mis-quoted and then perpetuated on the internet, that would stink.
I first thought it was mis-quoted in the movie "Dead Poet's Society" but I found a script of the movie (on the internet) and it says "you may." Again I hope it wasn't mis-quoted in the shooting of the movie itself and that's what got it started.
A friend suggested Whitman himself may have changed it at some point ??? That would be the most interesting way because it might suggest a change in how he viewed life ? I have a hard time believing it's written both ways by Whitman because you think someone would have pointed this out before.
Anyway, I'm still searching for some proof...
