I recently bought a an old copy of The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand at a book fair. It has a red cloth cover, no dust jacket. The copyright page states "copyright 1943, The Bobbs-Merrill Company Manufactured in the United States. I paid one dollar for it. I think that it is an early edition, maybe a first. Can anyone tell me a distinctive characteristic of this book's first edition? How much does the missing dust jacket detract from its value? Thank you.
