I too have a large John Brown self-interpreting bible that does not have the metal clasps, but a very heavy binding nonetheless. It also has an extensive "Memoir of the late Rev. John Brown" which is incredibly biographical, followed by other sections of biblical educational information which is followed by the scriptures w/notes & observations of Rev. Brown. This bible was published by William McKenzie, Howard Street, Glasgow; South Bridge, Edinburgh; and Paternoster Row, London sometime in the 1800's I'm sure. The pictures and maps and vivid in their color and detail.
