Wargs were large wolves of Rhovannian, allied to (and used as mounts by) the orcs of that region. They appeared at the Battle of Five Armies mentioned in The Hobbit. Tolkien mentions wargs occuring elsewhere in Middle Earth, but generally they occur in the North. One of the kings of the North was killed by wolves, I think.
From what I can recall, Tolkien has Carcharoth, the Red Maw, of the Silmarillion (who bit off Beren's hand as he held the Silmaril in it) as being the Father of the Wolves.
Werewolves occur in Tolkien's Silmarillion, with Draugluin being the greatest of their number; they infested the region called Tol-in-Gaurhoth. Huan, the wolfhound, defeated Draugluin and stood against Sauron (transformed into a werewolf) whilst defending Luthien and Beren during the Quest for the Silmaril.
