: I've just finished reading "Go Tell It On The Mountain and I am curiou about the biblical name references. I uderstand the logic, ironic as it is, of Gabriel; the parallels in Elizabeth and John; Deborah's relation to the strong and supportive Biblical Deborah, but why was young John's friend named Elisha? Have you read the book? (If not, you should, it's quite wonderful.) If you have, maybe you can shed some light. Or anyone else, for that matter! Thanks! LY
