This is the second poem in the Newtonian Sonnet Trilogy titled "The Age of Innocence."
ENVY
As if the vandal who smashed a statue were greater than the artist who had made it, as
if the murderer who killed a child were greater than the mother who had given it birth.
-- Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
The World Trade Center, wonder of the world,
Three times the height of their Great Pyramid
Of Giza, stands looking down, a herald
Of free commercial trade, the lowest bid.
Our pyramid in Giza towered high
Above anything on Earth for forty-three
Centuries. An up-start dares deny
Our Culture is supreme! How can this be?
We’ve captured their huge airplane, full of fuel.
We’re changing course and gaining speed. The twin
Towers are dead ahead. The airplane’s dual
Controls are working well. Let the Death begin!
We’ve struck a against this up-start nation
By offering our very best oblation.
