THE CIRCLE OF LIFE
For dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. -- Gen 3:19
The waves are creating a gentle spray.
The ancient Sun and Sky are watching surfers
All circled upon Waimea Bay
Thinking about one who no longer suffers.
And salty sweat still slips from my tan face
As I respectfully repeat a few
Words that seemed right last night but out of place
In the full sunlight. I don't know what to do.
His name is shouted three times. The small urn,
That holds his ashes but not his soul,
Is turned upside down and ashes return
To surf and sea and sky and sand. The whole
World hosts a spirit recently set free
And salty tears seep into the salty sea.
