A "Room of One's Own" refers to woemn having a place to call theirs to write, think and just be in. She was talking to women in an age when men still practically owned them and everything else. In Victorian England for instance men still received most of the s, there were few position for women other than governess or maid, and men were at the forefront of the literary scene because women had too much on their plates to write. They also were thought to be intelectually inferior. Therefore Virginia proposed that women find a way to make their own money and to find a place of their own to write and dream. Childless she had an advantage since her illness and her childlessness gave her the much needed time to write. She helped with Hogarth Press which was owned by her husband Loenard, yet it was clear he made all the decisions in that business. Only later, after Orlando, did she actually outearn him by her writing alone.
