Hurrah! The made it through! The US Congress may hate cats as individuals, but doesn't mind them if they come in bunches. That's a relief. Still, I hope some US citizen with too much time on their hands will ask their friendly local Congressperson WHY? I'd love to know the reasoning.
All this reminds me of an allegedly true story about the science fiction magazine "Astounding Stories" (I think it was that one; someone correct me if I'm wrong), which was edited by the mildly eccentric John W Campbell.
Campbell was an extremely puritanical editor, and ruthlesly excised any reference, no matter how obscure or oblique, to The Facts of Life. One SF writer decided to test Campbell, by mentioning in a short story, as if it were a science-fiction-y futuristic detail, that one of the characters had just acquired a ball-bearing mousetrap. A few pages later, it is mentioned that the mousetrap is in fact a tom-cat. This is believed to be the only reference to s that ever appeared in Astounding Stories during Campbell's editorship. Campbell never forgave the writer (wish I could remember who it allegedly was) when he learned about this, and the writer never appeared in Astounding Stories again...
Cheers!
