Authorized 13 April 1776 in the North Carolina State Troops as the 6th North Carolina Regiment
Organized in spring and summer 1776 at Wilmington to consist of eight companies from Wilmington and Hillsborough Districts
Adopted 7 May 1776 into the Continental Army and igned to the Southern Department
Relieved 5 February 1777 from the Southern Department and igned to the Main Army
igned 8 July 1777 to the North Carolina Brigade, an element of the Main Army
Reduced 1 June 1778 to a cadre at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania; concurrently relieved from the Main Army and igned to theSouthern Department
Reorganized in fall 1778 at Halifax to consist of nine companies
igned 11 January 1779 to Sumner's Brigade, an element of the Southern Department
Reduced 11 February 1779 to a cadre at Purysburg, South Carolina
Disbanded 1 January 1781
