I believe Aeneas left Dido because of his fate.
He realized that he was not supposed to be with
Dido and would eventually have to leave her because
of his fate. I don't think he left because of his
own free will. If he was smart enough he would
have just stayed with Dido. She all ready had
a successful state built in which she ruled the
people. Dido could have give Aeneas any power
that he wanted instead he left with nothing, but
the pains in his heart.
