: : : HELP SUMMARY FOR colors used in masque of the red death.
: There are 7 rooms, blue, purple, green, orange, white, violet, black&red. why are the colors used, and why in this order??
In regard to the colors, it is significant mostly that they are not black and red. The last room represents death, fear, blood, darkness . . . you name it. The others are colors of other stages of life. Poe gives us very little reason to think that there is a partidular order to the colors except that they are arranged as described. You don't need to know exactly what the other colors represent specifically, but it may be interesting to suggest possible symbolic meanings for other colors. Given that the black represents death, what aspects of life could be represented by the other colors?
