That just cannot happen, it is full of contradictions, so there is no point speculating "scientifically" on what might happen for an impossible situation.
It is a bit like asking a mathematician, if one day 1+1 equalled 3 instead of 2, what would that do to the value of Pi?
So the answer is that if you want to say sound will travel in a slow wave in your story, then it travels in a slow wave. But it doesn't have any basis in science whatever you say.
Remember Larry Niven? Maybe he was before your time. His time travel stories had things like unicorns in them. But that's impossible, unicorns are mythical creatures people protested. Well if you go travelling through time you've got to expect impossible things to happen he would answer.
