There is no definitive resolution, but both sides have their arguments. If you are willing to adopt the eliminativist platform, you are pretty well dooming yourself to determinism (in my humble opinion). Quantum theory may save us from this trap (superposition of particles between our synapses may allow some odd form of "choice" to manifest), but I don't know enough about it to say anything beyond it with any real confidence. Substance dualists, of course, don't have to worry about such silly things. The rest of us are stuck somewhere in between.
There we go, I think I vagued that up for you.

: has the determinism vs free will arguement ever been settled or is their resolution? I have recently begun seiriously reading philosphy and have yet to hear a good arguement from either side
