If I know that there is a world outside of my mind, the
n I know that there are other minds or I know that there
are physical objects
If I know that there are other minds then I should be
able to perceive these minds. I am not able to perceive these minds (I only infer that other minds exist on the basis that other people behave the way I behave.) Thus, I do not know that there are other minds.
If I know that there are physical objects, then I know
I am not dreaming of these objects. After all, if I am
dreaming, then these objects belong to the world of my
mind and not the world outside of my mind). If I know
that I am not dreaming of objects, then there must be
some means by which I can distinguish my dream states
from my waking states. There is no such means. Thus,
I do not know that there are physical objects.
There fore, I do not know that there is a world outside
of my mind.
