You definately are bringing up a really provocative idea. I recently read 1984 and was struck by the same notion. I am a Christian, though, so I disagree with you on some points. Some of the events in 1984 seemed freakishly similar to church. For example, the 2 minute hate ritual and the group emotion dynamic. I've definately seen that in church...where everyone gets worked up and the emotions just spread and before you know it, you're getting all worked up with everyone else, even though there is no rational reason for it. I saw other things as well, but the main thing that I want to say is that I don't think Orwell was writing a religious allegory per se. I think that what he wrote can be generalized to any human organization (political, religious, social) that manipulates and coerces its members into obedience. And yes, sadly at times the church does that. But you can't use that to judge Christ overall. I guess I really don't have enough space to develop that, though.
