OK, OK, Lord Jim does not easily lend itself to alternate endings like, say, "The Monkey's Paw" or "The Lady or the Tiger?" -- but you could still have a lot of fun with it.
If this were my ignment, I suppose the questions I would have to ask myself would be: does Jim have to sacrifice himself to earn redemption for early hesitations or decisions due to what Marlow calls his "subtle undoundness."
In other words, is there another way?
