Hello. I have driven myself crazy all morning trying to figure out what novel/BBC adaptation I am recalling. This morning, we were watching some Beatrix Potter animated videos, and then I remembered scenes from a BBC type of film, maybe a few years ago. The first scene I remember is two female cousins, meeting in the woods during a rainstorm, the blond cousin runs out of her carriage to embrace her cousin and forgives her for some prior offense. They are both wearing hooded cloaks. Then there is the part from earlier in the film where several young people were supposed to go riding on canoes, but that afternoon, the blond cousin and I think her brother both end up not being able to go, but the trusting blond cousin encourages her cousin to go with her (the blond girl's) boyfriend/fiance. While on the slightly awkward canoe ride, the fiance of the blond girl tells her, the main character, that he atually is in love with her, and they should run away together, so they end up on some large barge-type boat. They fall asleep on the barge, but when she wakes up, the fiance is gone. She goes back home, and that's when the cousins embrace and forgive, and the one who ran away with the guy said something like, "you are a better person than I." PLEASE I need to remember this!! You all must know that feeling where you remember the scene but not where it came from...Thanks for any suggestions or help. I know it's not Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and I'm renting Emma from the library to see if that's it. It may not even be Jane Austen, but a similar writer of dramatic family crises, etc...
