All Joyce's works are set in Dublin, although there are frequent references to other parts of Ireland (Mullingar,Galway, Wicklow etc.) Joyce himself was a Dubliner with, as he admitted himself, very little knowledge of the rest of Ireland. He never travelled extensively in his own country. And, having left Ireland for Europe at an early age, never to return, Joyce never fully acquainted himself with parts of Ireland beyond Dublin. The city itself he took with him.
