: Everybody tells me that to get accepted into Harvard, you have to have some extraordinary and unusual extracurricular skill. This makes sense, but I have no clue what kind of extracurricular activities this entails! Can somebody who is going to Harvard, is currently there, or has graduated tell me what they did for extracurriculars? Thanks in advance.
I just got accepted to Harvard early action for september 2000. From going through the whole process, it doesn't seem that you need one completely amazing, one-of-a-kind talent to get in. I think that it is more important (or at least just as effective) to have different kinds of activities through high school. I played soccer and was on the ski team but wasn't a stand-out in either. I was in a couple clubs. I did have a lot of community service through my youth group, but again it was over a long period of time. So, it may be that overall they are looking for someone who is self-motivated, respected by teachers, and interested in learning and experiencing a wide variety of interests. Hope this helps some...
