Maybe as the leopard doesn't belong that high up on the mountain, Harry doesn't belong exactly where he is. Both are out of their comfortable elements. The leopard belongs in the gres hunting elk (or whatever it is they eat; I don't know, I haven't read 'Green Hills'), and Harry belongs writing about his life instead of living it for the purpose of gathering experience for stories he won't write.
Maybe the leopard was trying to climb into Heaven and achieve immortality and is a metaphor (I just like using the word 'metaphor' in a sentence) for Harry's wish to write the good stories and achieve the same immortality. Alas, the leopard and Harry will die without achieving their goals.
Maybe Hem just threw it in because it was there. I never could figure out what it meant.
