In the larger sense of "allusion," there is the equation of religon and love in the novel, precisely articulated in Catherine's remarks to Frederick about her love for him. Then there is the presentation of Frederick himself gathering the Five Wounds in the course of the story (the last being the Wound-in-the-Side of Catherine's death.) Catherine's "Don't be sacrilegious!" remark to Frederick at the end of chapter 37 brings this whole religious image into conscious focus.
