: Is there anyone who likes "This side of paradise"and "beautiful and da*"? What do you think of the two novels? Why people are only interested in The Great Gatsby?
-------------------
Actually, I am not! My favourite novel was the beautiful and the dammed. It was years ago I read it but I was struck by this marriage the hero was in. In it they clearly almost seemed to hate each other but need each other at the same time. They understood each other very well and played on each other's weaknesses. On first impression of his novels, I found this novel the most reflective of real life. Really from that novel I bothered to read the others. I accept Gatsby is a wonderful novel , with a wonderful structure, but I do not easily identify with the people in it.
Beautiful and the Dammed gave us a central character who had the temperament of an artist and no talent. I can identify with that.
I love his short stories too. Something about Fitz hits my rhythm of thinking. After many years I have started reading him again.
