Just a comment or two. I never considered you or Catherine icky or weirdo, but rather two sensitive souls caught up in a rather bizarre, insensitive world just trying to make it and still retain your marvelous sense of history and writing. Your predicament reminds me, symbolically, of one of those Greek hybrid creatures, which come to think of it could represent exactly what's occurring here on this thread.
Well done all of you!
And by the way, speaking of contempt and associations in my mind, have you seen Godard's great film "Contempt," where a major role was given to Fritz Lang, a brilliant innovative film director who was utterly shamed and humiliated by Hollywood, along with Erich von Stroheim.. their great films were mangled and destroyed beyond recognition, although Criterion was able to put together a somewhat restored version of Lang's "M" (or maybe it was "Metropolis"). Watching it made me grieve mightily for the crass heartlessness of business in the face of art. Anyway, in "Contempt," Godard gets back at the Hollywood producer with the character played by Jack Palance, and he also manages to show us a new view of marriage and the way it can break up. I hope you get to see this great film sometime, if you haven't already.
