In the exposition of his 'most intimate views' Dostoyevski alludes to the idea of a 'Crystal Palace' at which he wished he could not 'stick his tongue out' at(sorry I;ve expressed myself clumsily). It relates to the dissatisfaction that permeates the 'person of the Russian majority' and in Raskolnikov's case leads him to murder. You might get a great idea of what he means by looking into 'Notes from the Underground': The bar that Raskolinkov goes into where he talks to Zomiotov and basically tells him that he committed the murder, right before he finds Marmeladov in the street, is called the Crystal Palace. This is an allusion to something. Does anyone know what?
