I'm new to Dostoevsky, and I have just completed the reading of The Double. I was wondering if someone with more insight and experience could clear up the following: why was Dr. Rutenspitz so interested in Golyadkin at the begining of the story, what what was the signifigance of Golyadkin's medicine in the cafe (had he not been taking it and did its absence lend to his breakdown?), and what did Dr. Rutenspitz represent at the story's end? Thank you.
